A Starry Night in December
Last year in December, I photographed many outdoors Christmas decorations, but not in my hometown. I had plenty of snowy winter shots, but no jolly sparkles from Candiac.
I was very disappointed with myself because I knew that I wanted to make a new calendar of my town; I want to create a new one every year. However, I forgot to include my December image in my shooting plans!
So for the 2010 Candiac calendar , there was no other solution than to create a new image with the atmosphere of a Christmas night.
I started with Forsaken , a stark depiction of a cold winter afternoon in the park overlooking the river, as shown below.
I spent a few interesting hours playing and experimenting with several layers of blue filters, levels, and curves adjustments. I then pasted some clouds from a texture shot that I made recently, and created a starry sky in the gaps between the clouds with a layer of grain, plus round brushes in various sizes and starburst brushes.
